The Pakistani rapist Daulat Khan, 23, was sentenced to life in prison for raping a 36-year-old deaf and mute woman in 2020, and by impregnating her. But it seems he got off the hook with a sweet deal with the court, that made him a free man again. He had to marry the woman he raped as a condition for his release, which he agreed on to.
The Peshawar High Court In Islamabad, Pakistan, rescinded its life prison sentence against Daulat Khan and released the him on Thursday.
The wedding took place right away in an out-of-court settlement that was made through a jirga, which is a council of local leaders that make decisions based on Islamic law, CNN reports.
The victim is said to have given birth to a child as a result of the rape.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has condemned the court’s decision to release the rapist, Khan, and urged prosecutors to appeal the ruling and uphold the government’s commitment to women’s rights.
